Erwin McManus was born on 28 August 1958. He is a native of El Salvador. His middle name is Raphael; he is sometimes referred to as Erwin Raphael McManus.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He currently serves as the lead pastor of Mosaic Church. They are a Christian community of faith in Los Angeles, California. They focus on serving the post-modern world, and they exist for mission. He is one of the fathers of what is known as the emerging church movement. He has some radical and controversial attitudes toward Christianity as we have become accustomed to it.
Erwin is outspoken (as all true Christians should be) and has attacked the modern Christians by saying that “the greatest enemy to the movement of Jesus Christ is Christianity.” He claims that a modern way of speaking called Christianese has made the gospel irrelevant and says that the Christians of today has lost touch with reality.
Erwin is also the founder of Awaken. This is a community of Christians committed to help people find and develop their God-given potential. They focus on creativity and the fact that God gives people certain dreams and desires to reach His goals through them. Such people change the world, they say.
Erwin is the author of six books (at the date of this review – 30 July 2007), and hopefully this list will grow. His books are inspirational and come very highly recommended. The current list is: An Unstoppable Force (Gold Medallion Award finalist), Uprising, Chasing Daylight (formerly Seizing Your Divine Moment), The Barbarian Way, Stand Against the Wind and Soul Cravings.
Erwin travels internationally and has visited more than 30 countries reaching and changing the lives of over one million people (including the founder and webmaster of this website – thanks Erwin for your obedience!).
Sorry ladies but Erwin is married to Kim, and he has three children – Aaron, Mariah and Paty (daughter in the Lord).
