Heaven's Humpties by Hazel Butler
by Hazel Butler
(Tenterden, Kent, UK)
Heaven's Humpties takes 46 traditional English nursery rhymes and parodies them into Christian truths - retaining the same scansion, rhythm and rhyming of the original rhymes. The book has a foreword by Adrian Plass, and is endorsed by Jennifer Rees Larcombe, Fiona Castle, and Anne Atkins - all of whom are internationally acclaimed authors.
There is also a 2CD pack -the first CD being a recitation of the rhymes by the author, and the second is 23 of the rhymes arranged and sung by John Perry (with others) John worked with the Beatles and many other famous singers, as well as being a backing singer for Cliff Richard for 10 years.
Here's the book sketch!
Do you ever feel like Humpty Dumpty - broken, with no-one to mend you, or like Jack and Jill trying to climb a hill, and forever falling down?
Heaven's Humpties contains parodies of 46 Nursery Rhymes and is a fun way of communicating relevant, basic, Christian truths to children and adults alike. They range from the simplest, like Twinkle Twinkle Great Big Star, to the more sophisticated parody on Goosey Goosey Gander - Useless, you Meander.
They cover Christmas, Easter, Biblical characters, parables, Christian living and church life. The simpler rhymes at the beginning of the book are ideal for reading to young children.
Those in the middle are a great resource for school assemblies, holiday clubs and all age worship, whilst those towards the end will especially appeal to adults, and the book could usefully be left on the coffee table!
Every rhyme is accompanied by relevant Scripture quotes, substantiating their content. Get the music CD as well, and you'll be having the kids singing Christian truths in a way that will be etched in their memories for ever.
Just as you will never forget Humpty Dumpty, who could find no-one to put him together again, they will never forget Heaven's Humpties and the truth that Heaven is full of broken Humpties, whom Christ has mended!
