The Audio Book and its TopicHoly Discontent by Bill Hybels is a book about that something you just can’t stand. It deals with your firestorm of frustration moment. What is it in this world that God placed you in, that you just can’t stand? We all know Popeye the sailor man, right? As Bill explains, Popeye was always cheerful and able to enjoy life with his sweetheart Olive Oyl. But when something threatened her, Popeye would experience a firestorm of frustration and declare “That’s all I can stands... And I cant stand any more.” Bill explains that God gave each of us a holy discontent that causes such a Popeye reaction to some wrong in the world of today. I guess it is another way to think about your big passion, or dream, if that involves fixing something. Most God-given dreams have it as their aim to fix or improve something for someone. For Mother Theresa it was the disgusting circumstances of the poor, for Martin Luther King Jr. it was racial discrimination, and for Moses it was a bunch of Egyptians taking advantage of his people. Have you ever experienced a firestorm of frustration? What is your one thing? What causes your Popeye moment? See God placed this intolerance in you with a very specific goal. He wants to have a personalized partnership with you to solve something in the world that really bothers Him... This audio book takes you through the motions of realizing that you have a holy discontent, developing your holy discontent and keeping your holy discontent alive. I am a firm believer in the claim that God alters our desires and passions to steer us in life, and to enable us to deal with our own specific situation. Therefore, this book was a very good fit for me. No... That is not why I am reviewing it! It can help you get where God wants you, and listening to such advice is a very good idea indeed. BookDisciple.com Power QuoteThere is something out there that God is waiting for you to grab onto, so that He can use you to help solve it.” – Holy Discontent, approx. 102 minutes in. So, how does it sound? This is my first audio book review (ever). I am wondering how that will sound in a few years when this website has hundreds of audio book reviews... Back to the point. I do not really know what an audio book should sound like. I didn’t dislike the way this one sounded, although I do think that Larry Black (the narrator) went slightly too fast at one or two stages during the book. Just remember that that English is not my first language (although I am very well versed in it), and you might not have the same experience when listening to this audio book. I think the sound of his voice and the mental picture I have of Bill Hybels was a fairly good fit. This seems fairly important... What did this audio book mean to me personally?Unfortunately, not too much. Look, it did reaffirm my lookout on my earthly assignment, and God’s will for my life (something I pray for daily according to the Lord ’s Prayer). See, I am one of the fortunate people (thank you, Lord God) who already have discovered my holy discontent or, as some would call it, my big passion in life. You are looking at the result of it. Did that sound proud? That is not my intention. I am just very thankful. Would it have changed me and my outlook on life a few years ago? Surely! That is why I am writing a review on it, and praying that it would get you to that place where God wants you. Good books to read (or listen to) with this one is The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson and Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus. Both life altering books for me, with a very similar message to the one Bill Hybels shares here. ConclusionIf you knew you had a discontent placed somewhere inside you by your Creator, wouldn’t you want to know what it is? Of course you would! God would also like you to know, so listen to this audio book and find out what it is... Okay, okay... If you are more of a book worm, you might as well just read the book.
