The Book and its Topic
Allen Carr was a genius. In The Easy Way to Stop Smoking, Allen tells the story of how he smoked almost 100 cigarettes per day, and tried every possible method to stop. He failed time and time again.
Eventually, he accepted his fate and knew he would shortly die prematurely due to his smoking.
Then a light went on for him. He started seeing smoking for what it really was – a drug addiction, and he started seeing the reason why people kept on smoking – brainwashing.
This excellent book helps smokers, while they continue to smoke, take a step back and look at their slavery through a clear, unpolluted lens. Allen helps these smokers remove the greatest forces keeping them in their slavery before they even attempt to quit.
Allen’s method to stop smoking has already cured millions of people. Before his death, he was widely recognized as the world’s leading expert on stopping smoking.
If you follow Allen’s method:
- You will not need willpower.
- You will not gain weight.
- You will not feel deprived.
- You will need no gimmicks, shocks, or substitutes.
- You will not suffer serious withdrawal pangs.
Does that sound difficult? It’s not. As you read, Allen blows myth after myth clear out of the water. Smokers believe so many lies about smoking. You just need to spend some time looking at the real reasons why people start to smoke, and continue to smoke, and you will see how easy it is to escape.
Is this a Christian Book? No. But the word Christian makes for an excellent noun, and a bad adjective, as Rob Bell teaches. Not all things Christian are true, and not all things true are labelled Christian...
I thank God for Allen Carr, and for his wisdom. If he didn’t write this book, I would still be a slave to smoking!
So, how does it read?
When you smell the type of victory that is being offered by a book as powerful as this one, you don’t mind if it’s not the best read ever. Well, I’ve got a surprise for you. It is remarkably well written for a book by a persona-non-authora.
Allen could have been an author and we would not have noticed the difference.
It is short, to the point, and includes clear and practical instructions. My copy is 218 pages long, and it only asks you to stop smoking after 194 pages.
What did this book mean to me personally?
It really does work, and it really is easy.
I started smoking while in high school (at the age of 16) and was soon thoroughly dependent on cigarettes. I went up to between fifteen and twenty cigarettes per day before I started working.
Did I enjoy it? No. Did I want to quit? Yes. Did I try to quit? Yes, all the time with—no success. I tried cold turkey, nicotine replacement therapy, drugs claimed to remove your ‘appetite’ for nicotine (a poison!), SmokEnders, etc. None of those methods helped!
I felt like I was going to be stuck in the nicotine prison for life. Then one day (around 2004, if I remember correctly) I discovered this little book called The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I started reading it, and carried on smoking. When Allen finally encouraged me to extinguish my final cigarette, I had no desire to continue smoking.
The brainwashing was thoroughly removed... And he didn't even use any tricks, like scare tactics.
I went from a pack a day, to nothing! I did not suffer. In fact I enjoyed the process of quitting.
Trust me. If I could stop smoking, anyone can. Yes, even you!
Conclusion
God did not create us to be enslaved by drugs. We were created free! Chose to be enslaved—in the garden of Eden, and then Jesus came to set us free once again. But, it's optional. No-one is forced to be free. The world and our own harmful desire for destruction sometimes work together to get us enslaved to drugs, and other addictive behaviors.
Too bad. Let’s just sit around and wait for heaven then… There we’ll be free.
NO!!! You already did everything you need to be free, now! You are called to be free now. Go and see how many times Jesus persuades his Church (you and me) to be victorious in the first three of chapters of Revelation. We must be victorious. Jesus has given us the victory!
But, sometimes we need all the help we can get. We believe the lies planted in our minds, and stay enslaved. This book is very helpful to confused and scared smokers. It tells you the truth! This could be the book that God uses to get you free from nicotine addiction. That’s what He did for me.
If you are smoking, please read this book. Allen Carr shares the necessary wisdom for you to escape from this trap. It is easy, trust me!
The Easy Way to Stop Smoking would also make an excellent gift to a friend who is currently a slave to the weed... Go on—you BookDisciple you :)
