The Experience! The Bible Experience by the Inspired by… Media Group has left me speechless. It is awesome. The Word of God has come alive… It is exactly what a generation not too keen on the Holy Scriptures needs. A new (postmodern) way to experience the living, life-giving Word of God. It is awesome! Don’t believe me? Look at these claims: The most ambitious recording collaboration in history... A cross cultural appeal... Winner Audio Book of the Year 2007… #1 Bible & Other Sacred Texts – Amazon.com… #1 Best-selling Book Wal-Mart… The fastest selling audio bible to date… “In the world of audiobooks, it’s a smash!” – Associated press… The bible has a voice… Still not sure? Look at this video (be careful if your tear glands are shallow…):
The celebrities and other talents used look like the cast for a new movie. It is heart warming to see that they were willing to work on such a project, and apparently most of them did it as a labor of love. Amazing. Consider the following (to name but a few): Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Blair Underwood, Angela Basset, LL Cool J, Forest Whitaker, etc. God gave these guys amazing talents and it is very fitting that they should use it to further the message, power, experience that is the living Bible, Word of God. You will struggle to have such a rich experience of this old, holy text when merely reading. So, how does it sound? How do you think ‘a fully dramatized audio recording of both the Old and New Testaments’ will sound? It sounds good. It is almost as if the Bible has come to life... The all African American cast with their indisputable talent adds something very special to the experience. Although hearing Samuel L Jackson’s voice when God speaks (in The New Testament) might be something I need to get used to. Especially after Pulp Fiction… Just Kidding, Samuel! Let me be brutally honest and admit that I have not listened to all of it. I have listened to about 5 of the bible books, and I am making slow but sure progress. I will get through it all eventually though. For the first time ever, I will be able to work through the Bible in a structured way! And that through an audio experience that rivals the soundtracks today’s movies... Bottom line? It sounds really good! What did this audio book mean to me personally?I am listening to it. My quiet time each day now consists of putting on some earphones and listening to three or four chapters of The Bible Experience. I still need to get a copy of the TNIV for reading while I listen. I think reading and listening at the same time must be an even better way to experience the bible. I will be using it for many years to come… It has totally revolutionized the way I view the bible. ConclusionA bible for the postmodern age. It is about time that we start experiencing the living bible. Get your hands on this audio book, and it will transform your quiet time and bible study. The Bible Experience is not something achieved by men. It is a blessing from God! It will be with you for the rest of your life… I almost want to say like my Savior did - “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Luke 8:8 NIV). Listen! Listen! Listen!
