Review of The Dream Giver,
by Bruce Wilkinson

BookDisciple.com rating: 8.5

The Dream Giver

The Topic

The Dream Giver is all about those things most dear to us that we do not necessarily like to talk about – our dreams. This book aims to help you follow your God-given destiny.

The well-known author and Bible teacher, Bruce Wilkinson, shows us that our dreams are from God. God gives us dreams to have us depend on Him and walk out our lives in a deep love relationship with Him. Moses and countless other Biblical figures had such dreams and we read in the Bible about their lives spent in pursuit of these dreams.

The dream giver starts with a parable about Ordinary. Ordinary is a Nobody living in the Land of Familiar. The story then goes on about how Ordinary has a Big Dream and his journey to achieve it.

The second part of the book concentrates on your own dream journey.

Bruce takes you through a number of stages you will encounter in pursuing your Big Dream. It starts with realizing that you do have a Big Dream and if you lost it, it is just a matter of digging deep enough to find it again.

Then you must leave your Comfort Zone, face the bullies in Border Land, go through Wasteland, and find Sanctuary - here God will ask you to give your dream back to Him (oops, maybe that was too much information!). Then you start living your dream! You enter the Valley of Giants and then thrive in the Land of Promise.

Sounds easy, right? Wrong! But it is one hell of an adventure. Just think of King David’s journey to become the King of Israel... It might just take you the rest of your life to walk your own dream journey. Fortunately, this book will help you along the way.

So, how does it read?

This book must be one of the easiest books I have ever read. It is sheer reading pleasure. The first half reads like a story (since it is a story...) and the second half deals with one of the most interesting topics to a human being. Himself, and the road he must follow to achieve his dream (as I have already stated – I like repeating myself though).

It is short, and to the point. My copy has 157 pages of medium sized type, and there is a section supplying all the notes with Scripture references that Bruce makes throughout the book.

What did this book mean to me personally?

It literally changed my life! As I said, the book takes you through a number of stages in pursuing your dream. After I surrendered my dream to God, the idea of this website started... Say no more! I do not want to spoil your exciting journey for you by telling too much now...

Let me just mention, that my life is no longer a mundane 8 to 5 job that I despise, but an exciting journey with a love relationship with God at the center of it.

Conclusion

The Dream Giver is not for everyone. It might just change your life. Forever!

However, if you feel that there is more to your life than you are currently experiencing, or believe God had more in mind when creating you, this is the book for you. And by the way, you are almost certainly correct in thinking that.

The Dream Giver asks you to do some tough things, and does not show you a complete road map, but it is sure to get you started on your way to living your God-given destiny.
